DomeGS: Perceptually Consistent Background Completion for Unbounded 3D Gaussian Splatting in Virtual Reality
DomeGS addresses incomplete horizons in 3D Gaussian Splatting reconstructions of unbounded outdoor scenes, which can break immersion in virtual reality. Instead of placing a flat skybox or skydome around the scene, it integrates the horizon and sky directly into the Gaussian Splatting representation. In a study with 36 users, this approach significantly increased spatial presence and perceived realism compared to a skybox baseline (p=0.042 for both).
